Hi everybody !
Sorry for writing blog after long time. Some details of what so far have been done in Plasma Media Center for which people are waiting ![]()
Now, We have a dataengine named mediacentercontrol which updates and provides data to all applets which are connected through it e.g mediacontroller, mediaplayer, etc. There is a containment(Plasma Mediacenter Shell) written in qml (thanks to my mentor Marco Martin) which holds all applet within at specified position and dimension. Snapshot of Plasma Mediacenter Shell

mediacontroller applet consists of different icons(play/pause, stop, seek), through which user can control the playing media.
mediaplayer applet which does the actual play, pause, seek, etc action requested by the user. Now only music and be played. As soon as Harald Sitter completes his work in phonon to play video using qml, will implement it in mediacenter.
mediabrowser applet which consists of three different mode i.e videos, music, pictures(now only music mode works and have to rewrite into qml). User can browse through the filesystem and can select the desired file. Snapshot showing browsing through the filesystem and at the sametime mediaplayer is playing music showing its progress in the slider.

Will try to complete Plasma Mediacenter as soon as possible![]()
Any suggestion regarding Plasma Mediacenter will be really useful to make it better![]()

The mockups in community wiki look promising
In KDE’s community wiki Plasma Team Coordination thing there are some mockups that look so very much promising and I really like to see something like that on a living room PC :)
Keep up the great work :) And Plasma impresses me EVERY single time how scalable and flexible it is. Just look at netbook, it‘s basically just another containment with some KWin tweaks and here you go: Netbook. Plasma Active is also "just" Plasma. It is amazing
Thanks!
Thanks for such a nice suggestion ;)
After completing basic features, looking forward to implement it.
metadata fetching
Great work! looking forward to replacing xbmc on my TV :)
Are there any plans to implement metadata fetching from the internet? using libvalhalla comes to mind (I tried it out with Enna, and also by writing my own simple scanner, and it's quite impressive)
Thanks
Not yet, but we have plugins like flickr and youtube which will be implemented further. First will work through the basic components of the Plasma Mediacenter ;)
nice!
This should be able to be a seperate "activity", to be swiched in, from normal desktop, and out.
Keep on rocking!
Separation of Engine and UI
I like how there is a good separation between functionality and user interface, keep that up, I'd love to see variations on UI for the different form factors when the desktop/netbook/handset plasma shells comes along.
Thanks!
Thanks for giving motivation to do best ;)
Will try to fullfill everbody's expectation
TV is mandatory for me
"Any suggestion regarding Plasma Mediacenter will be really useful to make it better"
For me a media center is only useful if it integrates with TV / PVR / DVB, so any integration of that kind is necessary for me before i could switch from mythtv.
Hi!
Since this is the initial step which I am doing, You can't get everything in first time. After implementing basic functionalities, will definitly integrate it with stuff like TV
Dont want it instantly
It was just a suggestion. Was not meant toe be read as "I want that now". If it gets implementet in future i am pleased. If you had sayd "No, we wont implement that feature" i would stay away from KDE media center.
Media file choosing
Hi, do you have plans to simplify file choosing? The file system access is nice, but additionally virtual folders -- recently added media, favorite folders, maybe a search -- would be a nice addition for everyday usage.
What about integrating meta data like cover art and descriptions? See e.g. http://xbmc.org/skins/confluence/ how this can be done nicely.
Thanks
Thank you for the suggestion. We already have Nepomuk which do stuffs. Later, will implement it
Designer needed
The idea is not bad, but the first screenshots I see here cry for a designer to give the Media Center Shell a good user interface.
Hopefully you find someone to add a decent look & feel to this Shell.
Thanks
Thanks
I know GUI is very simple. first, wanted to give all basic functionality which is mandatory for mediacenter. After that will work on making attractive GUI
Good to see that this is
Good to see that this is still being worked on!
